Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old. The Highland representative of Diageo’s Classic Malts range could hardly be a better introduction to the region. For those familiar with the big names of Speyside, where heavy, winey dried fruits and woody notes dominate, Dalwhinnie presents a refreshing malty and grassy lightness.
This is a classic Highlander, but considerably lighter than many of its stable-mates.
Dalwhinnie 15-year-old offers a splendid initiation into the world of single malt whisky. It boasts an elegant, smooth texture and a medium body, accompanied by a gentle fruity essence on the palate and a subtle hint of heather in the finish. This expression is a distinguished member of Diageo's esteemed Classic Malt range.
Its very floral nose calls to mind the Highlands: heather, pine needles, peach blossom…the peat is there too, but you have to search for it. Given time, a little fruit becomes apparent, in particular a pleasant strain of apricot. On the palate there is more heather, with walnuts, plenty of malt, and cinnamon coming in later. It is very light, clean and crisp, with a long lingering finish.
