Lochlea & Overtone Stout Cask Finish

In 2023, Lochlea marked its 5th anniversary in style, teaming up with Glasgow-based brewery Overtone for a groundbreaking collaboration. Overtone was on the lookout for whisky casks to mature their first double mash stout, and Lochlea’s Production Team rose to the occasion, handpicking six exceptional casks: three bourbon barrels, two STR barriques, and one Oloroso Sherry butt.

These casks played host to the rich, chocolatey stout known as Overtone: Our Barley Aged, a brew matured in the same cask makeup that defines Lochlea’s signature single malt, Our Barley. But the collaboration didn’t stop there.

Once the casks returned home to Lochlea, they were filled with Our Barley whisky, allowing the stout’s bold character to intermingle with the spirit for a full year. Emma, Lochlea’s Trade Sales Manager, shares:

“From these six seasoned casks, our distillery team selected three that delivered something truly special. The result is a rich and buttery Stout Cask Finish that we’re incredibly proud of.”

Launching on December 3rd, this UK-exclusive limited edition release is bottled at a robust 52% ABV. The whisky is a beautifully layered dram, offering notes of buttery shortbread, toasted barley, toffee, and tropical fruit. The finish is luxuriously long and silky, with vibrant hints of fruit and cereal that linger.
