The Glengoyne 17 Year Old Scottish Oak is a very limited Highland single malt that explores a particularly unusual style of maturation, finishing well-aged Glengoyne whisky in virgin Scottish oak.
After its initial maturation, the whisky spends a further two years in virgin Scottish oak casks, made using timber sourced from Killearn, just five miles from Glengoyne Distillery. The local oak brings a drier, more savoury dimension to Glengoyne's naturally fruity character, adding warming spice and toasted nuttiness alongside the sweeter notes.
The nose opens with crème caramel and ripe plum, joined by malted milk biscuit and hints of spice. On the palate, creamy milk chocolate and orange marmalade provide richness, balanced by ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg. Toasted hazelnut develops underneath, bringing a nuttier, more structured character from the Scottish oak.
The finish is long and notably dry, providing an elegant contrast to the sweeter fruit and chocolate flavours found earlier in the dram.
The quality of this limited release was recognised at the 2026 International Wine & Spirit Competition, where it received an impressive 98 points and a Gold Outstanding award.
An intriguing Glengoyne that combines 17 years of maturation with local Scottish oak and a distinctly different side to the distillery's character.
