A smoky dram with a French twist — this is the first-ever release from The Glasgow Distillery to be finished in a Pineau des Charentes Rouge cask, and it’s a banger. Crafted from mainland peat-kilned malted barley peated to 50ppm, this peated single malt brings big smoke, balanced beautifully by the luscious dark fruit and spice of a rare Très Vieux Pineau Rouge wine cask from western France.

This 5-year-old whisky began life in a first-fill ex-bourbon barrel, soaking up vanilla, oak and caramel, before being transferred into a 225L Pineau barrique for an extended finish of one year and ten months. Bottled at a bold 58.7% ABV and with just 303 bottles released, it’s an exceptionally limited edition from Glasgow’s progressive Small Batch Series.

Why It Matters:

The Glasgow 1770 Small Batch Pineau des Charentes Cask is no ordinary wine barrel — this was a Très Vieux Rouge matured for over 10 years before the whisky got near it. Made from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot grapes, the fortified wine imparts deep red fruit and spicy warmth, adding a gourmet twist to the peated base. It's elegant, indulgent, and just a bit wild.
