A world-first for The Glasgow Distillery, this release is a rare meeting of Scottish spirit and South African sweetness. The Glasgow 1770 Constantia Wine Cask Matured (Unpeated) is a bold, fruit-forward single malt that showcases the distillery’s versatility and innovation in cask maturation.
This limited-edition whisky is five years old and has been crafted using unpeated double-distilled spirit, first matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, then finished for one year and ten months in exceptional Constantia dessert wine casks sourced from South Africa. Bottled at a natural 56.6% ABV, only 980 bottles exist of this special release.
The Constantia casks—an historic wine style once favoured by Jane Austen and Napoleon himself—impart a stunningly rich, aromatic character to the whisky. Expect a decadent bouquet of fresh apricot, peach, pink grapefruit, and clementine, laced with manuka honey and finishing with subtle dark chocolate tones.
These notes are layered on top of the spirit’s core profile: soft vanilla, gentle spice, and creamy texture from the bourbon cask influence, creating a lush, complex dram that’s both elegant and distinctive.
This bottling is part of Glasgow Distillery’s Small Batch Series, which explores the full range of their whisky-making styles—peated, unpeated, and triple distilled—through innovative and rare cask finishes. With this Constantia finish, the distillery steps into new territory and delivers something genuinely exciting for collectors and flavour hunters alike.
Each bottle is drawn from the contents of three Constantia casks—Casks No. 20/1399, 20/1400, and 20/1401—which were filled in 2020 and bottled in March 2025. Aged entirely on-site in Glasgow, this whisky is a celebration of craftsmanship, patience, and global collaboration.
Nose: Notes of fresh apricot, ripe peach, juicy clementine and rich vanilla lead to lightly floral notes of jasmine and honeysuckle.
Palate: The palate is a juicy explosion of fresh fruit balanced against floral and rich manuka honey. Notes of sweet pink grapefruit and ripe peach meet apricot compote and vanilla ice cream with a sweet almond nuttiness.
Finish: The finish is long and fruity with lasting notes of light honeyed sweetness, a touch of fresh ginger, and hints of 80% cacao dark chocolate.
