Wire Works Port Cask is a richly flavoured English single malt that demonstrates the remarkable influence of carefully selected wine casks. Part of White Peak Distillery's refreshed Wire Works Provenance Core Range, this expression is crafted by marrying whisky matured in fresh Tawny Port barriques from Dias Cooperage with spirit aged in first-fill American oak bourbon barrels, creating a beautifully balanced whisky full of fruit, spice, and gentle complexity.
The Port casks contribute vibrant notes of dark fruit and warming spice, while the bourbon barrels add layers of vanilla sweetness and structure. Together they create a whisky with an inviting rosy hue and a flavour profile that is both indulgent and refined. Bottled at 50.2% ABV, with no added colouring and non-chill filtered, it delivers an authentic expression of White Peak's distinctive house style.
The nose is rich and expressive, opening with black cherries, marmalade, dark chocolate, and toasted almonds before a delicate thread of bonfire smoke adds further intrigue. The palate follows with candied orange peel, treacle, blackcurrant jam, and warming cinnamon, complemented by a subtle note of cigar box that adds depth and maturity.
The finish is long and satisfying, with lingering clove, cinnamon, and mocha coffee bringing the whisky to an elegant close. Rich without being heavy, Wire Works Port Cask is a superb example of modern English whisky making and a worthy addition to the Provenance Core Range.
