The Saint Cosme Cotes du Rhone 2024 is an expressive and elegant southern Rhône red, produced entirely from Syrah and combining ripe dark fruit with savoury complexity and plenty of regional character.
Château de Saint Cosme is based in Gigondas and has been in the Barruol family for more than 500 years. Today, fourteenth-generation winemaker Louis Barruol produces wines from across the Rhône Valley, working closely with growers and carefully selected vineyard sites to create wines with a strong sense of place.
Fruit for this Côtes du Rhône comes from Vinsobres and the Villafranchian terraces of the Gard, where the vines grow in soils composed of limestone sand, red clay and pebbles.
The grapes are completely destemmed before traditional vinification, with fermentation taking place in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts. This relatively simple approach allows the Syrah fruit and individual characteristics of the vineyards to remain at the forefront.
Rich blackcurrant and wild raspberry are complemented by earthy truffle and distinctive liquorice notes. The wine combines depth and concentration with charm and finesse, leading into a long and satisfying finish.
