The Roccolo Grassi Amarone 2019 is a rich and powerful Italian red, combining concentrated dried fruit with dark chocolate, subtle oak spice and the smooth, supple texture characteristic of fine Amarone.
Produced in the heart of the Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, the wine comes from a four-hectare, south-east facing vineyard planted with vines averaging around 40 years old. The vineyard sits between 200 and 250 metres above sea level on volcanic-basaltic soils, with deliberately low yields helping to produce exceptionally concentrated fruit.
The blend comprises 60% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, 15% Corvinone and 5% Croatina. Grapes are harvested by hand before being naturally dried until early December, concentrating their sugars, flavours and aromas.
Following fermentation and a 30-day maceration, the wine is matured for 24 months in 225-litre French oak barriques, of which 50% are new. A further 18 months of bottle ageing takes place before release.
Rich, layered and intense, the palate offers ripe raisined berries and dark chocolate alongside a touch of oak spice. Despite its concentration, the texture remains beautifully smooth and supple, creating a powerful Amarone with depth, balance and a long, satisfying character.
