Pol Roger Champagne Vintage 2016. The 2016 Brut Vintage from Champagne Pol Roger is made from the traditional house vintage blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from 20 Grands and Premiers crus vineyards in the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs.
The magic unfolds in the bottle as secondary fermentation transpires at a frosty 9°C within the depths of Pol Roger's cellars, a staggering 33 meters beneath street level. The wine patiently rests here until it experiences the hands-on craftsmanship of remuage (riddling), a rarity in today's Champagne practices. It is within these deep, cool, and damp cellars that the exquisite and enduring mousse, for which Pol Roger is celebrated, finds its unique character.
Available in limited quantities, the Brut Vintage 2016 undergoes meticulous ageing in the deep cellars of Champagne Pol Roger before being disgorged and introduced to the market.
Nose: begins with notes of dried fruit, cocoa, almond and coconut. Allowed to breathe, notes of yellow fruits such as Mirabelle plum add complexity.
Palate: Exceedingly fresh - Crisp acidity gives it a strong backbone that carries right through to the finish. Those aromas of dried fruits from the nose persist, with nuances of citrus, lemon and bitter orange completing the palate.
Finish: Subtle notes of confected fruits come through, in particular candied orange peel.
