Low Burn Pinot Noir 2024

The Low Burn Pinot Noir 2024 is an elegant and expressive Central Otago Pinot Noir, combining vibrant red fruit with lifted florals, savoury complexity and beautifully refined tannins.

Produced by Pyramid Valley, the fruit comes from vines planted on a gentle, north-facing slope in Central Otago. The original vines were established in 2000, with additional high-density Pinot Noir plantings added between 2018 and 2020. The vineyard's predominantly loess soils over deep silts, together with careful cover cropping, help create healthy vines and fruit with excellent concentration and character.

Following harvest, the grapes are hand-sorted and gently destemmed before being transferred by gravity into concrete and oak open-top fermenters. Spontaneous fermentation takes place using wild yeasts, with the wine spending between 18 and 22 days on the skins. It is then matured for 12 months in barrel followed by a further nine months in concrete and wooden cuves before being bottled without fining.

The result is a wonderfully elegant Pinot Noir, with complex red berries and lifted floral aromas alongside savoury, meaty nuances. Crunchy red fruit leads the palate, framed by refined tannins and earthy undertones that carry through to a long, characterful finish.
