The Kilchoman Family Collection 14 Year Old Bourbon Cask is one of the standout expressions in the inaugural Family Collection (1st Edition), selected during the Wills family's annual review of Kilchoman's maturing casks. While every whisky in the collection showcases a different side of the distillery's character, the 14 Year Old occupies a particularly special place as the only 100% Islay release in the series.
Distilled in 2011 using barley grown on Rockside Farm, this whisky was grown, harvested, malted, peated, distilled, matured, and bottled entirely at Kilchoman. It is a true farm-to-bottle single malt, reflecting the distillery's unique approach to whisky making and its close connection to the land. Peated to a gentler 20ppm in Kilchoman's traditional floor maltings, it offers a softer, more delicate interpretation of the distillery's spirit than the heavily peated expressions produced with malt from Port Ellen.
Matured in ex-Bourbon casks for fourteen years, the whisky displays remarkable freshness and elegance. Bright citrus, orchard fruits, vanilla, honey, and sweet malt are layered with subtle floral notes and a gentle thread of maritime smoke. The palate is vibrant and refined, balancing creamy vanilla, ripe stone fruits, soft oak spice, and biscuity malt before the delicate peat carries through into a long, clean finish.
A beautifully expressive whisky, the 14 Year Old captures the essence of Kilchoman's farm distillery philosophy, offering a distinctive and highly individual take on mature Islay single malt.
