The Glasgow 1770 Sherry Cask Batch 1 brings together two distinctive styles of single malt from The Glasgow Distillery, combining unpeated and peated spirit with carefully selected sherry casks from renowned Spanish producer Ximénez-Spínola.
This six-year-old release is created from an equal proportion of double-distilled unpeated and peated single malt, with eight casks brought together for the final marriage. The unpeated whisky was initially matured in ex-Bourbon barrels before spending over two years in Pedro Ximénez Sherry hogsheads. Its peated counterpart began in ex-Bourbon barrels before a longer secondary maturation of more than three years in Medium Sherry hogsheads.
The result brings together the distillery's naturally fruity spirit with rich sherry influence and a measured layer of smoke. Dark fruits and orange peel lead into toffee apple and cedarwood, accompanied by roasted coffee notes and a gentle sweetness. The peat remains beautifully integrated, providing a lingering thread of sweet smoke rather than dominating the whisky.
Bottled at a robust 55% ABV batch strength, Glasgow 1770 Sherry Cask Batch 1 is presented at natural colour and without chill filtration, preserving the rich texture and full character developed during maturation.
A fascinating combination of two spirit styles and two different sherry influences, this is a bold, richly flavoured Glasgow single malt with an excellent balance of fruit, sweetness and smoke.
