Glaschu Peallach (Tobermory) 10: Ximenez-Spinola PX Finish – 70cl, 55.2% ABV
From the windswept Isle of Mull comes a rare and characterful dram: the Glaschu Peallach (Tobermory) 10 Year Old, finished in an exceptional Ximenez-Spinola Pedro Ximénez sherry barrique. This limited single cask release captures the very essence of Tobermory’s peated style, while layering on a decadent Spanish sherry richness.
Initially matured for 10 years in American oak ex-bourbon casks, the whisky was then transferred for 8 months into PX casks from boutique producer Ximenez-Spinola, famed for their intensely concentrated sherries. The result is a whisky of remarkable depth, balancing smoky island character with a lush, dessert-like sweetness.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Aromas of smouldering maple, brulée figs, cherry liqueur, and roasted nuts, underpinned by a subtle maritime smoke.
Palate: Full-bodied and indulgent, with dark chocolate, sticky toffee pudding, spiced oak, and black cherries laced with honeyed peat. A touch of salted caramel and molasses lingers.
Finish: Lingering and warming, with waves of dried fruit, sherry sweetness, and smoky embers that fade slowly and elegantly.
