Introducing the Ca' Rugate Amarone della Valpolicella "Punta 470" Black Label 2019, a distinguished Italian red wine that exemplifies the pinnacle of winemaking artistry from the renowned Veneto region. This exceptional vintage is a testament to Ca' Rugate's dedication to quality and tradition, offering a rich and complex experience for the discerning palate.

Winery Background

Ca' Rugate, a family-owned winery with deep roots in the Veneto region, has been crafting wines that reflect the unique terroir and heritage of the area. The "Punta 470" label signifies the elevation of the vineyards, situated at 470 meters above sea level, where the combination of altitude and meticulous vineyard management yields grapes of exceptional quality.

Grape Composition and Terroir

This Amarone is a harmonious blend of traditional grape varieties:

  • Corvina (45%): Imparts structure and vibrant acidity.
  • Corvinone (40%): Adds depth and rich tannins.
  • Rondinella (15%): Contributes floral notes and softness.

The vineyards, perched on the hills of Montecchia di Crosara, benefit from well-drained volcanic soils and optimal sun exposure, fostering grapes with concentrated flavors and balanced ripeness.

Vinification Process

The 2019 vintage underwent a meticulous production process:

  1. Harvesting: Handpicked during the last two weeks of September, ensuring only the finest grapes are selected.
  2. Appassimento: Grapes are gently dried in well-ventilated rooms for approximately 4-5 months, concentrating their sugars and flavors.
  3. Fermentation: In winter, the dried grapes are crushed, and fermentation begins with natural yeasts. The must is then transferred to 500-liter oak casks to complete fermentation.
  4. Aging: The wine matures for 25 to 30 months in oak casks, enhancing its complexity and depth.

Food Pairing for Ca' Rugate Amarone Punta 470 Black Label 2019

This Amarone's robust profile makes it an excellent companion to:

  • Braised meats: Such as beef short ribs or lamb shanks, where the wine's depth enhances the savory richness of the dish.
  • Aged cheeses: Particularly Parmigiano-Reggiano or Gorgonzola, which complement the wine's complexity.
  • Game dishes: Including venison or wild boar, where the wine's bold character stands up to the intense flavours.

Serving Recommendations

  • Temperature: Serve at 18-20°C (64-68°F) to fully appreciate its aromatic nuances and depth.
  • Decanting: Recommended to decant for at least one hour before serving to allow the wine to open up and reveal its full complexity.
  • Cellaring Potential: This wine is poised to evolve gracefully over the next 10-15 years, developing further sophistication and harmony.
