“It came about more by accident than anything, but as is often the way, I think it’s all the better for that. I’ve never really found a gin that works with cigars and because of that, rarely turned to gin except perhaps on a hot day in a traditional G&T. Then I formed my collaboration with Leggets, and through them, met our master gin distiller. I told him my feelings and happened to mention that, to my knowledge, no-one had ever made a cigar-specific gin. That was the light bulb moment – I realised that I might be able to do something that no-one else had -and that always appeals to me; I like blazing my own trail. And so I set to work. And over the months, with sample bottles flying backward and forward between us, I narrowed down what I realised works and what doesn’t. And the result is, in my opinion, simply extraordinary; a super smooth, powerful gin, with echoes of exotic spices, content to sit in the background, adding colour and intrigue until it is called upon to sluice the palate and leave a clean, soft canvas to lovingly welcome the shifts and nuances of a fine cigar. The response to the Oriental Cigar Gin from experts and cigar lovers alike has been phenomenal. I’m very, very proud of it. And I drink a lot of gin these days!”
