Hoyo de Monterrey finds its origins in the heart of the Vuelta Abajo zone, within the town of San Juan y Martinez. The illustrious Hoyo de Monterrey plantation, esteemed as one of the great Vegas de Primera, is accessible through a gate on the town's main square proudly inscribed "Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener. 1960."

The name "Hoyo," translating to "hole," aptly describes the plantation's location in a low-lying area along the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martinez River. José Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, introduced the name of his vega to a brand of Habanos in 1865, marking the inception of a renowned cigar legacy.

Hoyo de Monterrey cigars are revered for their blend, catering to aficionados who appreciate a delicate yet aromatic Habano that offers both elegance and complexity.

The brand is particularly esteemed for its Double Corona and the prestigious Epicure series, which includes the No.1 and No.2, complemented by the longer Epicure Especial introduced in 2008. Each cigar is meticulously handcrafted using the ‘tripalarga, totalmente a mano’ method—long filler, entirely handmade—from filler and binder leaves sourced exclusively from the Vuelta Abajo tobacco zone.
