H. Upmann Half Corona is the first 3 1/2 inch Havana to be introduced since the second world war. Its forebear called the half-a-corona, was in its day the best selling Havana size by far.

H. Upmann is one of the oldest and most distinguished cigar brands, with a history dating back to the 1840s. It all began when Herman Upmann, a banker, left his profession to open a branch office in Havana. Sensing a lucrative opportunity in the cigar industry, Upmann boldly invested in a cigar factory in 1844, marking the official launch of the H. Upmann brand.

In 1922, both the Upmann bank and the cigar business faced bankruptcy, leading to their acquisition by J. Frankau & Co., a British firm. They maintained the cigar production until 1935, when the brand was sold to the newly established Menendez y Garcia Co., the creators of the renowned Montecristo cigar. Menendez y Garcia continued producing H. Upmann cigars until the nationalisation of the Cuban tobacco industry following the revolution.

H. Upmann cigars are crafted exclusively from filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo region, using the ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ (long filler, totally handmade) technique. This dedication to quality has earned the brand numerous accolades, including gold medals at eleven international exhibitions in the 19th century, proudly displayed on its labeled boxes.

H. Upmann Half Corona is creamy with hints of coffee. Small attractive Havana, good draw, with complex flavours for such a small cigar. An excellent short smoking break cigar.
