Hoyo de Monterrey finds its origin in the heart of the Vuelta Abajo zone, specifically in San Juan y Martinez. The distinguished Hoyo de Monterrey plantation, among the esteemed Vegas de Primera, is accessible through a gate on the town's main square bearing the inscription "Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener. 1960."

The name "Hoyo," translating to "hole," aptly describes the plantation's location in a low-lying area along the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martinez River. José Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, introduced the name of his vega to a brand of Habanos in 1865, marking the inception of a renowned cigar legacy.

Hoyo de Monterrey cigars are cherished for their blend, appealing to aficionados who favour a delicate yet aromatic Habano that exudes elegance and complexity.

The brand is renowned for its Double Corona and the prestigious Epicure series, which includes the No.1 and No.2. The Epicure Especial, introduced in 2008, extends this tradition with an extra-length Robusto that enhances the classic light-flavoured elegance of the Epicure No. 2.

Additionally, the Le Hoyo Series offers vitolas known for their slightly stronger and spicier profiles compared to the brand's classic range.

Each cigar is meticulously handcrafted using the ‘tripalarga, totalmente a mano’ method—long filler, entirely handmade—from filler and binder leaves meticulously sourced from the Vuelta Abajo tobacco zone.
