Bold, vibrant, and dripping with dark fruit character – this Glasgow 1770 Small Batch Syrah Wine Cask Finish marks an exciting first for The Glasgow Distillery. A limited-edition single malt finished in Greek Syrah red wine barriques, it’s a whisky that marries Highland precision with Mediterranean intensity.
This five-year-old release begins life in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, where it builds a solid foundation of creamy vanilla and soft caramel. After just over three years, it’s re-racked into Greek Syrah wine casks from the island of Evia – a region known for its rich, sun-ripened grapes and vibrant reds. There it rests for nearly two more years, soaking up the wine cask's deep, jammy character.
The result? A striking dram bottled at natural cask strength – 59.3% ABV – bursting with notes of blackberry, raspberry, strawberry jam, and black cherry, all tied together with layers of dark chocolate and a subtle pink peppercorn spice.
Limited to just 652 bottles, this expression forms part of Glasgow Distillery’s acclaimed Small Batch Series – a lineup showcasing the full range of their whisky-making prowess, from peated to unpeated and triple distilled, always pushing boundaries with innovative cask finishes.
