Named after William Shakespeare's tragic lovers, Romeo y Julieta cigars trace their origins back to 1875, embodying a rich history and a timeless love story. The brand soared to international fame in the early 20th century under the leadership of Don 'Pepin' Rodriguez, a visionary promoter who recognised the power of the cigar band. During his prime, no fewer than 20,000 different bands were used in production, showcasing his innovative spirit.

One of Romeo y Julieta’s most famous devotees was Winston Churchill. Following his visit to Havana in 1946, Churchill's name was immortalised not only on a band but also as the marque's most iconic size—the Romeo y Julieta Churchill.

The 21st century has introduced two notable sizes to the Romeo y Julieta lineup. In 2006, the Short Churchill, a robusto size, was added to the range, filling a previously missing niche. In 2010, the Wide Churchills, boasting a 55 ring gauge, debuted at the 21st Festival del Habano, catering to the trend among enthusiasts for thicker vitolas.
